Hello My Name is...

We started talking probably close to a year ago about, but never anything very seriously always what if, or what would we do?  Then last fall Randi's friend Lauren told her about this website and organization that she was involved with.  Randi sent the link on to me (and I am now adding it here Southeast Texas Labrador Retriever Rescue) and we both on our own checked it out.  When we got home later that night and decided to go check out their event that they were having last December.  Well when we left the event it was pretty much a foregone conclusion...we were going to add to our little family.

We would like everyone to meet Lena!

Hi My Name is Lena!
We met Lena at the STLRR event in December.  It was love at first sight for both of us.  We quickly filled out the adoption application.  As soon as we were accepted and STLRR was going to try to match us up with a Lab, we told them we want Lena.  Much to our dismay we were told that someone had already been promised her.  We were a little bummed.  So we decided to meet some of the other dogs in the organization but we were going to wait until after our wedding and take our time finding the right dog for us.  A couple of days later, once we had gotten over our disappointment, we were in Kohl's when both of our phones started to ring - first Randi's, then mine, then Randi's again.  We didn't recognize the number so we let it go to voice mail.  As we were standing in the long pre-Christmas line Randi decided to check her voice mail.  It was Marissa from STLRR telling us that the family that had originally wanted Lena had changed their mind.  We were SOOO excited, but also a little worried as to why they had changed their mind.  We came to find out that Lena has a cataract in her right eye and the family didn't want to deal with that, plus they already had 2 dogs and really just wanted to adopt, not give a dog a home, so to speak.  Once Lena was checked out again by the doctor and we found out all that was required to do for the cataract was give her drops once a day, we were relieved and said we'll take her.

Unfortunately we couldn't take her right away because we were going to be leaving for our wedding and honeymoon.  STLRR was kind enough to keep her in foster care until we came back, and we are SO grateful that they did.  Once we got back and settled in we drove up to the Katy area to pick Lena up from her wonderful foster family.

On the ride home.
We LOVE having Lena in our lives.  She is a VERY loving dog, she is always trying to lean up against you, which is why we didn't change her name because she is a "Lena"! She is already crate and house trained, she does know sit, and shake.  We took her to a one hour intro class where we decided that she will be going to some doggie training classes starting next week so we can get her to learn a couple of other things, like "off" and some leash skills.  She loves her bed and goes to lay down in it at night when we are watching TV.  We did have a couple of days of early morning whining but that went away as quickly as it came.  We just can't say how much fun it has been to have her around, now if we could just get some nice weather so we can all go for longer walks than just around the block.

She has to be where the action is.

We're still trying to find the right toys!

Some particulars about Lena:
Age 2 (11/29/2008) (Estimated)

We think she may have had a litter in the past, but no more!
